I enjoy finding out new information and facts about elephants. So I always keep an eye open for any new pieces of research that are published. A while ago I found some information on a study that Lucy King of the University of Oxford had conducted in Kenya. She was researching ways to aid farmers in protecting their crops from elephants using natural deterrents and thus avoiding conflict.
The need for this has arisen as villages are expanding and farmers are diversifying their crops. As human expansion takes place, the amount of space elephants have in the wild is reduced. This can cause conflict as elephants raid farmers crops and also try to pass through villages that have expanded into their migratory routes. So to prevent human and elephant conflict something needs to be done.
